We love it here!! The only reason it isn't perfect is lack of connection really. There is NO cell service without campground WiFi (we run 3 carriers (Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile) and none of them have servie). When their WiFi is up and running, it runs great, but there is a problem. They are aware of the issue and are actively working the issue with expansion of their transmitters, constant reset of the router, etc., but some of the technical issues are from the service provider. I have no doubt, they will get it worked out. This is a LOVELY small campground (50ish sites), great for kids and family get together. Along the North Toe River (it gets stocked, on-site from April-Nov), with a lake too!! New ownership about 6 years ago, that redid everything!! Family owned and operated with an attention to detail that provides the most welcoming atmosphere of any place we have ever stayed. This is a kid's paradise and a great place to let them spread their wings a bit. GREAT laundry, lovely covered pavilion with comfortable seating, grills, smokers, etc., fabulous playground, CLEAN and MODERN bathhouse, seating vignettes spaced out around the lake with rockers, hammocks, cornhole, firepits, THE BEST CAMPSTORE ever with really unique items!!! And kind and friendly owner/operators...Suzanne, Kim, Mike, and Jared all have their duties and responsibilities and they all do them very well!! This is a season campground, only open April-October so make plans in advance as they are booking up fast for future seasons!!! We camped at Mountain River Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an excellent campground. The staff were super nice and the grounds were well taken care of. There is a large fishing pond in the middle of the campground and a river that runs behind many of the campsites. Cell service is non existent due to location and the WiFi is a little weak, but this is an excellent place to unwinds and relax. We will definitely go back again.

Awesome place. Staff is super friendly. The sites are level and well maintained. Bathrooms are super clean. Water and sewer hook ups were well located. The N. Toe River runs along side the campground and we caught several very nice trout. I’m already booked again!!

Lovely stay! Bathrooms really clean. Recently remodeled bathrooms. Laundry room clean. Honor system with soap and use of washers. $4.50 to wash and dry, not bad. Also has a nice camper room with games ice, bbq if you choose to socialize or need the extra space. Hope to come back again when we can hang out for a week or so. They were able to be flexible with our request for a change in site when we requested a pull through instead of on the river as we originally requested. Campground laid out nice.

Nice spot. Clean, friendly, space between sites, pet friendly with small fenced in dog area, well maintained, alot of sites right along Toe Stayed 3 nights. Along Toe Rover, quiet, lots of grass and trees, small fishing pond. We went mid week so not too busy but at checkout time on a Friday campers were backed up at gate waiting to get in. All dogs must be on leash. Cleanup after pets required which help keeps place clean. No access to river for family activities. but river too swift for that anyways. Fishermen can access by scrambling. Would stay again.

Family of 5 from IA passing through to spend time on Blue Ridge Pkwy. This campground was amazing. Clean, well-cared for. Level sights. A cute (and clean) laundry room! Friendly and accommodating staff. We stayed near the river and fell asleep every night to the sounds of the water. We loved the close proximity to the Parkway. We loved their game room (foozball table and legos!), a pond for fishing and frog-catching. My kids loved it here. Great campground for a family. I would recommend it and would stay here again!

Incredible campsite with gorgeous views and friendly, accommodating staff. We were here for just one night, but if we had known how perfect it is, we would have stayed a month! Book it. Stay here.

Wonderful campground right on the river with sites that back up to the river. Friendly owners. Lots of upgrading has been happening. Lots have full hookups and are beautifully landscaped. Will return

Restrooms were new and clean, although they were not climate controlled. Depending on the time of the year you visit, that may or may not be an issue. Sites are gravel and fairly level. Very few over the air TV stations available. Quiet peaceful area. Overall a nice peaceful campground with friendly hosts.

We love MRFC! It’s became our new favorite place to stay. New owners took over fall 2017 and it’s only improved! They are working so hard to make this property top notch and provide a great camping experience. We can’t wait to come back this year and see all the new improvements. Owners, family & hosts are all just wonderful!
