Spent two enjoyable nights here in the newer section of the RV park/campground. Level concrete sites. Bath house/laundry are pretty new and very clean. Reasonably priced. Base facilities excellent. Global Power Museum with substantial static display is a must see for air power history enthusiasts. Not much happening in Shreveport but the casinos are enjoyable if one is so inclined. The Margaritaville Casino is the newest, in the riverfront area of Bossier City, across Red River from downtown Shreveport. The gate situation is a little complicated. The West Gate is the 24/7 main gate with visitors center. The North Gate is closer to the RV park. The Eat Gate is the commercial gate and closest to the RV park. Both the North and East Gates are open only during business hours. Set your GPS for the Barksdale AFB RV Park and you should be ok.

We didn’t stay long enough to enjoy the beauty. FamCamp is a little drive from the main base. We stayed in the newer RV sites. It has a nice static display of older planes. The gym was absolutely amazing! The historic housing is simply beautiful.

Gate closures are a hit and miss. All passengers must have an military ID or be signed in at the main gate visitor center. Fam Camp is on the other side of the base. A map would be helpful before arrival. 36 ft MH with a TOAD. No issues coming through main gate zig zag. Could not get into the visitor center. Parked on side. There was enough room for other to get by. # to Fam Camp 318 456 2679. Tiffany was more than helpful providing directions and getting us signed in. Great value for a few days stay.

Zero issues; this was our second time staying here, which is MUCH easier accessing the base from the commercial gate during the day. It’s best that you arrive before nightfall and before the office closes. We were in a pull-through in a different section from the office. Check-in was smooth and quick, directions were great, amenities were outstanding. Super easy access from and to I-20. Will stay again for a longer period so we can hit the casinos. 😬

Agree with what suts11 said below. The restroom/shower was nice and clean the one time I used it. We arrived on a Sunday, and the staffer was out cleaning one of the mobile home rentals; called the number as instructed and she was right over to check us in. If able, I'd advise being pre-familiar with entrance procedures. We arrived on a Sunday, but following guidance from another website, we went to the main gate, checked in at the visitor’s center, and the airmen at the gate removed the barriers and we were on our way. That included time getting my wife (non-DoD civilian/no mil background) checked in with me (DoD-civilian) as sponsor. The camp is well on the east side of the base if you enter from main gate, but a short drive from the commercial gate. Exiting the commercial gate was easy and close to the intestate. I'd stay again.

Stayed 1 night in newer section. Very large concrete pad was nice. There is 0 shade in this section. Biggest complaint is that the facilities were poorly maintained. Laundry room and bathrooms were DISGUSTING. My husband called the office to let her know and the response was she could get to it tomorrow, we never saw staff come by.

Stayed 10 nights, late May-early June at the newer section of the Barksdale FamCamp. This section of FamCamp can be reserved in advance. $20/night with reduced rates for week/month.
Pros: Level concrete pads, easy utility hookups, well staffed campground (they seem to care and knowledgeable about camping versus other Outdoor Rec ran facilities), spacious between sites on new side. Clear antenna signal. More reliable WiFi than majority of other campgrounds.
Cons: Gravel roads are well worn, lots of potholes. Any rain seems to congregate to the front and back of sites, making getting in and out of your TV, secondary vehicle and into coach a mess. Long termers taking over the older section of camp, which is well shaded (newer section has zero shade). Pretty far from amenities (small Capehart Express is a mile, but about 10 miles to exchange/commissary).
We stayed in a 36’ TT.

The industrial Gate is open from 0545 til 1200 on Saturday. The new Camp Ground is very nice with level pads. Utilities are well placed.
