For BLM North Fork Campground: Perhaps it was due to so many other campsites being closed at the moment due to COVID-19, but when we went in mid-May, Owyhee North Fork Campground was incredibly busy. It was completely full and had people camping in non-designated areas. The last 20-25 miles from Jordan Valley were on decent dirt road (some washboards but not terrible) and gave a serious sense of isolation, increasing our confusion at finding the site so busy and a surprising amount of road traffic. There were vault toilets that we didn芒鈧劉t use but overheard tent campers complaining about, again, I don芒鈧劉t know if that芒鈧劉s related to COVID-19 or a general problem. We have a 30芒鈧劉 bumper pull and didn芒鈧劉t feel claustrophobic maneuvering in the campgrounds. The area itself is beautiful, good trees and there芒鈧劉s a pretty stream of moderate size with banks that don芒鈧劉t lend themselves well to wading or playing in. There are fun trails to hike around and you can hike up out of the canyon to get some wonderful vistas.

For BLM North Fork Campground: This campground is fairly primitive. It is set in a beautiful location in a deep canyon right on the North Fork of the Owyhee River. There is basically one loop, no trees, fairly tight access off the road. I had difficulty getting into the campground with my 38' trailer, but had no problems when returning with a slide in camper. The Scenic byway loops around the campground and can be noisy and dusty. Fortunately the traffic on this road is light; a few cars per day. Unfortunately we were once there in April, on the day that the local ranchers were trucking their cattle to the high country. About a dozen semi's dropped down into the canyon with Jake brakes, circled us, then powered and rattled up the other side. The amenities are a simple compost toilet. No drinking water or dump or trash. The pads are simple scrapes, with a fire ring and table. There are endless boon docking opportunities in the surrounding BLM land.
