For Mescalero Sands North Dune OHV Area: Everything says you can park at the north, south or middle lots. Those are the only lots so... park where there is a lot. Each lot is fairly small so if very many people are there you will have close neighbors. The back lot is somewhat protected from the wind. I didn't go into the middle lot. The front lot has WIND. It also didn't have any other people, especially people with generators, so I stayed there. The wind was insane. The blowing sand was insane. But a sunset and a sunrise alone in the dunes was amazing.

It is $3 for one person or $5 for everyone in a vehicle per day. I wasn't sure if overnight required 2 days but I went ahead and paid since it wasn't very much.

For Mescalero Sands North Dune OHV Area: Very nice site for a very affordable $3 entry (as of Oct 2016). There are no developed sites, but three dispersed areas with picnic tables. The furthest from the highway has pit toilets that were reasonably clean. There weren't many campers around. Signage on the road is poor.

For Mescalero Sands North Dune OHV Area: Quiet dry camping. Busier on weekends.
