For Wellesley Island State Park: June 2025: This is a very large state park with a big variety of camp sites. Besides extensive woodlands the park includes lots of bogs, swamps and grassy wetlands. This creates a heavy to extreme mosquito population. The winds off the lake somewhat help, but only in open exposed areas. We were here on a cold (40鈥檚) windy couple of days but the mosquitoes were constantly swarming around us and our vehicle. Bring lots of bug repellent! The campground loops have fairly narrow one-way paved roads with no shoulders. Many sites have only short very lightly graveled pads, if any. Most campers with trailers park their towing vehicle and any additional cars on the grass, either within their site or along the sides of the campground roads. If the ground is wet the traffic can turn the grass to mud. The variety of sites makes it impossible to predict exactly how level each site is, or how long a gravel pad each site has, from the online campground info. The park is overall appealing but there are some very rough edges to the facilities. The entrance office where campers check in suffers badly from deferred repairs and smells strongly inside like mold and urine (my wife says like a dirty cat litterbox). Fortunately there is a replacement building under construction. The staff are mostly very young (student summer employees?) and are not particularly friendly or even knowledgeable about the park. They seemed incapable of clearly answering the most basic questions or of providing good directions to features in the park. The campground store/laundromat/arcade building is very newly constructed with a nice design and high quality materials. It would be attractive except for being already filthy and poorly maintained. Whoever is directly responsible for managing this park is not doing their job. The lack of basic routine cleaning for a long time is apparent at this building and throughout the park. The laundromat room is furnished with four newer looking washing machines ($3 per load), and four newer looking dryers ($2 for 40 minutes). The machines and the entire room look like they have never been cleaned. The laundry room is humid and musty smelling. The several windows have good screens but have been sealed closed, so can鈥檛 be opened and there is no other source of ventilation in the room. The entry doors to the laundry and arcade rooms, including the door handles, and the surrounding walls, are coated with a thick layer of spiderwebs, dead insects, dust and grime. The covered entryway area near the doors is also dirty, from old leaves, dirt and cigarette butts. The restrooms in the B loop were similarly dirty. Although the original design and construction quality were good, years of deferred maintenance and an obvious lack of anything but the most basic cleaning was glaringly evident. The showers were free and the water was hot, so that was a plus. The park map is printed in one ink color (green) so every line looks like it could be a campground road, although some lines are the shoreline and some are undefined, so driving within the park can be a bit confusing. The positive is that there is good signage at most (but not all) road intersections. All the sites with electric service seem to have their power pedestal at the far rear of the site, well beyond the end of the site gravel pad. This may not be the case for the full hookup sites, which I didn鈥檛 look at. The freshwater faucets scattered randomly through the loops are threaded, and mostly accessible from the roadside and adjacent sites with a long hose. The childrens playgrounds have newer looking play structures and appear clean and well maintained. In summary, this campground has some negatives but depending on why you chose to stay in the area, and your expectations, it might be enjoyable. Some people in the NY parks system have put a lot of thought and effort into making this an appealing park, but dedicated care and attention to on-site daily cleaning and maintenance is definitely lacking.

For Wellesley Island State Park: LOVE THIS CAMPGROUND! Our site 20 was amazing (section H, only power) but huge. Great hiking. Especially the eel/lake trail. Nature center was nice. Wonderful sunsets. The only thing that bothered me was the push button shower. Which is small peanuts in the scheme of things. You will not be dissappointed with your stay. (. At least during the week, not sure of weekends)

For Wellesley Island State Park: Stayed there early June 2019. Great place to stay. We stayed in a fully serviced site that had paved and level spots. That particular area was quite popular but it was quiet and family friendly. One thing to consider is that there is a toll bridge to get to this park and you have to pay the toll each time you go out of the park. If you are doing a lot of sight-seeing in the area you may wish to be aware of this additional cost.

For Wellesley Island State Park: This campground is amazing! We stayed here in mid September in a 24 foot trailer, in a secluded spot on the water. We were greeted cheerily by a young man, who was so helpful in Xing out all of the sites that were unavailable, and letting us know which had good water views. We opted for 9, which we had to back into, for quite a way, and then level one side of the trailer. It was without hookups, because we prefer views and solitude, and the hookup sites are usually in a 芒鈧損arking lot芒鈧 situation, without any privacy, which is what you get here. Most of the loops were closed for the season, so we got a spot in Deer. It was nice and shady, with a great little peninsula that we sat on for hours, watching a mink fishing, after it almost ran over my feet, as we were sitting there. Even though it was in the mid eighties, we never felt hot. Nice and quiet here! You have to pay a toll of $9.00 Canadian, less in American dollars, to get here, over a very narrow bridge, so once you芒鈧劉re here, you芒鈧劉re kinda trapped, so get supplies ahead of time. One of our best experiences in 2 years of traveling full time!

For Wellesley Island State Park: Very nice grassy campsites, most with trees. We wanted electric only, but there are other combinations in September it is very empty. Not a lot of water sites. Great dump station. Perfect location do going to Boldt Castle, boat house and antique boat museum.

For Wellesley Island State Park: Wonderful park with big grassy sites, about a third of them with a tree or two. My only ding would be, like the other NY State Parks we've stayed at, the sparsity of potable water access points, although with two or three hose lengths you can connect from most sites.

For Wellesley Island State Park: Great state campground. Only 30 amps, we stayed at electric only site ( there are full hookup sites) Sites could of used a little maintenance but not bad, use ground pads even if on black top, very thin. Staff was great. Very big, and family friendly. Just be careful with pets there are loops that don't allow pets.
