Loved this park! Nice, spacious sites. Clean and well maintained bathrooms and showers. Wonderful, well marked hiking trails. And very nice camp hosts. Seriously everything you need!

Campground is very spacious. We are tent campers but shared our site with a friend who has a travel trailer. Large wooded sites with very nice bathroom facilities, the park is very popular with locals. We live only 20 minutes away so we use the hiking trails all the time. Virginia has amazing State Parks. You can add this one to your list. Many trails to take and the hiking is easy. The staff is extremely friendly. You can fish, kayak or canoe on the James River. Numerous horse trails so you might have to share the path.

Fantastic place for those who want to relax, hike, kayak and enjoy nature. A small playground is away from the camping area which keeps things quiet. All campsites have a tree buffer. The four-spot dump station is very clean. Restrooms were spotless with several single rooms rather than communal stalls. The rangers are very friendly and the park host was inviting and helpful. Perfect for the 55+ crowd.

Stayed two nights (6/10-11). We arrived at 5pm after the park rangers had left for the day and proceeded to our reserved camp site. The camp host John (along with his dog Max) dropped by during our setup, gave us our reservation package and provided a great review of the facilities and amenities available. The park offers good walking, hiking, biking and boating opportunities. All RV sites are spacious, well separated, pretty level and include elec & water. The is an excellent dump site on the way out of the park. The bath house was spacious and and very clean. Well off the beaten path, this was a great place for leisurely days and for quiet & star filled nights.

Visited on 5/28/2017 There were 29 RV spaces providing electric and water. Four New up-to-date Dump Station available. Spaces are far apart providing privacy on very large wooded lots. Very nice. Park is great for Hikers, Mountain Bikes, Equestrians-parking provided, canoe/kayakers, primative campers, group campouts, picnic shelters, playground. .Beautiful Park!

This park was updated in early 2017 and now has 29 RV sites and 3 Yurts.
Spacing is decent with about 100 feet between gravel sites which are largely level and linked by a narrow tarmac road. Water hookups and all electrical hookups are for 30A and 50A. No cable TV hook up but the Verizon reception was good though local Tv needed boosting.
About half the sites can be reserved and the other half are non-specific sites that can be booked but the exact site you get will depend on when you arrive. Arrival time is 4pm and leaving time is 1pm.
The washrooms, showers, and laundry room are new, clean, and beautifully maintained.
The site staff (who change every month) were very friendly and helpful.
The James River is close by - a boat launch is about a mile away and the State park is large with many walking trails.
Overall a great experience - we will come again.
