Have been to this popular state park many times. We always stay in the Savanna Campground electric sites up the hill away from the river. The sites tend to be more spread out with thick brush in between. In recent years the Riverway Campground has been allowed to brush up between sites much improving privacy. The restrooms are older but clean and well maintained. The beach is nice especially for kids. There are lots of hiking trails though out the park that are well marked and maintained. Be sure to bring your bikes as the roads are all paved with access to a bike trail that leads down the highway to town and beyond. E-bikes would work well as the roads within the park have enough hills to give your legs a good workout. The river and small lake are ideal for canoeing and kayaks. The park is close to the Twin Cities so tends to fill up fast. We camped here in June 2023 and there were a few sites open all weekend so last minute reservations are possible. Fall is the best time to camp here with the changing leaves and lack of mosquitoes. A solid 5 stars for this MN state park!

Winter camping here is nice, quiet, nice fire rings, help yourself firewood, electric only sites. Dump is closed for the winter but looks nice. We’re able to get water at the park office on the way in. No check in required if already holding a reservation
