One of the best camping experiences this winter. We camped in the west rim campground. Generous sites, clean restrooms, affordable laundry and helpful camp hosts. I definitely stay here again. I didn't even mention all the great hiking. Loved this stop

East rim area is small and was wet in early March, but is close to the visitor center and trailheads. West rim was much nicer with more trees and more secluded. Trails are amazing to the falls. West campground very clean and well maintained. Camp store well stocked.

Cloudland Canyon State Park is our favorite state park and campground in the country. (Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Canyon, Texas is a close second!) We are seniors who took up camping five years ago when we retired. We started as tent campers, and moved to trailer camping, first with an A-Liner. Today we pull either our 20-ft. Airstream, or our Little Guy. We camp frequently at Cloudland Canyon since it is just three hours away. However, we have camped in about 20 other private, state and national campgrounds in 10 states and counting. We always come home by way of Cloudland Canyon and the West Rim campground. We hike to the falls and around the rim, we take in the Nature Center when an Interpreter is present, we sit around the campfire in the upgraded fire rings, and we enjoy our very spacious, private, shaded campsite!

I didn't walk the stairs to get the best view of the canyon nor did I explore very much of the park to find an easy scenic view. What I did view from the east rim was scenic but didn't blow me away like Tallulah Gorge near Toccoa,Ga. There is a west rim campground and an east rim campground plus a tent camping area. The west rim was full so off to the east rim area. The east rim is less shaded and the bath house was in need of updating. The sites were crushed rock, BBQ grill, table and a fire ring that's placed in odd places away from the sites. Very clean park. East rim area had a lot of families staying in tents on the crushed rock sites while the west rim area appeared to have more towables and less children. All sites appeared to be level. Not much privacy at either campground.
The roads to get to the park were in good condition with a few semi steep inclines but not too bad. We drive a vintage Toyota Winnebago with four cylinders and made it just fine. Slow at times but no big deal. Verizon coverage in the east rim area was one to two dots LTE at times and 3G at times. I picked up five television stations with a small HD antenna.
I've known about Cloudland Canyon for years and really wanted to like the experience but I won't return. Like I said, I didn't hike nor climb the stairs to the bottom of the canyon. If I did, I'm sure it would be impressive. I guess I should have gone years ago when the knees were younger. Ha.
