Review of camping at North Sterling State Park Campground. We were in the Elks Campground at site 007, which had electricity, and overlooked the water. Originally we were going to stay 2 nights but only stayed one as we knew we could do better. Pros: clean bathrooms with coin showers and coin laundry. Wonderful archery course! Helpful and friendly park rangers. Pet friendly. Well known for its good fishing and boating if you enjoy that. Our site is very close to several others so if you are group camping, it would be good. Cons: The RV sites are all placed very close together with no privacy, it felt more like a KOA site than a state campground. Lots of pointy burrs for the puppies to get caught on their feet and lots of trash- cigarette butts and broken glass around the campground. No shade or trees other than the built in shade structure over the picnic table. The wind was very strong being on the bluffs. We would probably not stay again, only as with the little Scamp we spend a lot of time outside vs inside a huge RV, so the outdoor ambience matters to us, and we prefer much more privacy. That being said, larger rigs who tow boats probably love it.

Nice open grassy campground. Good lake views. Spacious and widely separated sites. Can be quite windy. Keep your awnings in. Pricey for electric only. $8 day pass in addition to camping fees is excessive. Bathrooms are fine, but no hand soap provided.

A beautiful, well-kept state park. Nearly 25 minutes from the interstate. We stayed in the Elks campground and enjoyed the lake view. Our gravel site was not level. The toilet/shower facilities were fairly new and very clean. Camp sites were nicely spaced out. It was pricey. $8 daily car pass and $36 for an electricity only site. No WiFi. Poor cell reception (AT&T). Hiking trail information was not found at the self check-in site. We would not stay here again for convenience. But we would stay again to enjoy the setting, and maybe to try the fishing.
