The Meriwether Lewis campground is located at Milepost 385.9 along the Natchez Trace Parkway near Hohenwald, TN. We loved this campground as we traveled the parkway. There are no services at each site but the asphalt roads and parking pads made for a pleasant set up. We had lot number three which was a drive through near the entrance of the campground. There is plenty of space between positions and garbage collection was nearby. They also have a bath house at the other loop which we did not us but it appeared to be well maintained. There were mostly seniors here and that led to a very quiet except for guy that decided to run his generator at 6:30am. We arrived at 4:30pm and got last spot available. Another couple came in later and lucked out with someone leaving early. They said if it would have been full they would have asked another camper in a drive thru circle if they could have shared a spot as the circle lots are lengthy. There is no charge to park here. I would recommend coming in as early as you can and simply enjoy the trees and beautiful quiet.

Stayed here one night, Monday March 6, 2023. Lots of availability and no fee. Primitive but nice sites. Flush toilets and clean bathrooms. Scenic location with great hiking trails. The Natchez Trace Parkway is a very relaxing and scenic drive with tons of history; the Visitor Center near Tupelo is a worthwhile stop.

October 2021. Camper van. Great free national park campground. Lots of roomy sites. Clean restroom. First come, first served. Only stayed one night and wished I could have stayed longer. No AT&T service. Hope to return when I have more time.

My husband, I, and our dog stayed here for 7 days in our 22ft class C. It was wonderful. Quiet and dark. There are no hook ups, but we are self contained so it was fine. There are really nice bathrooms with flush toilets and water pumps. We have Verizon with our cell phones and an ATT hotspot. Service could be a little spotty, but not horrible. All the sites are large with a fire ring, a cement pad for your vehicle or rv, and a garbage can. We were there from Monday to Sunday and there were never more then 10 sites taken...usually much less. Best of all it was free!

Very nice, FREE campground. First come, first served sites. Stayed two nights 7/3/19 - 7/4/19. Very nice pull through site, no hookups but water is available in campground. Bathrooms are clean and modern. No showers. Peaceful and quiet. Even though it was the Fourth of July weekend, the campground wasn’t even close to full. Nice hiking trails and creek. Meriwether Lewis grave and monument is on site and worth a look. Beautiful place.

Clean, paved, shaded and quiet. Facilities are well maintained. No dump station or potable water fill station. There is a spigot where you can fill a bucket or tank at the bathroom. Camping is FREE!

Paved sites with a bathroom. For free. Clean. Really nice place. Verizon coverage was 1x to 2dot 3G. Mile marker 385 on the Trace.

Camped here in a big rig with toad, no problem. We were lucky the place was almost empty, so we were able to find a large enough site. While walking around the next day, we wondered if we could have parked overnight at the visitor area above the campground...large rv parking sites up there with gorgeous views. No signs said otherwise. Spectacular gem, as is the Trace.

We have paid to stay in many campgrounds that were not nearly as nice as this one. Beautiful and quiet setting. Sites have paved pads and are spacious, many are pull through. The turns are pretty tight and there are a lot of trees so be very cautious. There are many sites that would accommodate a 25-30 feet long unit, but not a lot for a long rig. If you want electric and water, head south of here about 30 miles to Davey Crockett state park.
The Natchez Trace Parkway is a gem.
