Great park - great boardwalks - sites are level - 2bars of ATT- we heard mosquitos were bad but we had lots of wind so they were not bad at all while we were there- saw bird and one big alligator - would of given 5 stars but the beach wasn’t as nice as some but not all beaches can be pristine- we would stay again

The campground is small and quiet It is relatively quiet. The beach is very nice and the fishing is great. We caught a huge black drum surf fishing. We did not use restrooms so I cannot be helpful there. The long boardwalk is wrecked, I guess from a recent hurricane. That would have been nice to use. Mosquitos are vicious. I mean they are thick when the wind dies down. Be prepared for that. Also, bring enough food for your stay as the nearest supermarket is something like 20 or 30 miles away.

Those pesky mosquitoes! I’m taking off one star for those because up until our last day here, they were no big deal. Normal amount for camping. However, our last night here, we were literally eaten alive in our motorhome. My husband took our dog outside around 8pm that night and after being caught in a huge mosquito swarm, ran back inside, letting them in through the door. We spent all night smooshing them, getting bites everywhere. Our poor daughter woke up with about 10 bites on her face, as the rest of her had been covered by a blanket. We got barely any sleep that night. We were happy to be leaving. Before that experience though, we had a great time! The gulf coast beach is beautiful, we saw lots of wildlife and had lots of fun. The pit toilets are kept extremely clean, friendly staff, and clean beach. Our site was spacious and pull through. Dump site not far. Verizon cell signal not the best, but we could get by.

Stayed here for two nights and enjoyed walks along the beach. No problem with mosquitoes during the day but winds were 10 mph or more. We were sure to be back in the camper before dusk.

Very nice park. Hardly saw any mosquitoes in early March. Did see one big gator on the nature trail. You can dry camp right on the beach. Only pit toilets and cold showers. One of those silly places that charge you for both camping and day use.

Nope. Tried. Couldn't do it. I mistakenly thought we could power through the mosquitoes. Silly me. Beautiful rustic spot, very welcoming and helpful ranger, but we could not have survived the night without the help of our ShopVac. We literally vacuumed the walls and ceiling. Four stars for location, staff, and solitude. Five stars to all of those rascally, insistent, and pervasive mosquitoes. I'd absolutely give it five stars if we had strong winds.

First comment is mosquitoes. We came in to the park at the end of January and during the day there was a breeze and mosquitoes were not a problem. The staff did mention that if your RV door was facing the wind it helped with the mosquitoes. We should have listened to her at the time. At night fall the mosquitoes invaded our fifth wheel. They were everywhere. After killing about 50 I realized that one basement door on the opposite of my door was still open. I went outside to shut it and found a swarm of mosquitoes. After shutting the basement door it helped, but we still killed probably 200 mosquitoes before going to bed. When I got up during the night to go to the bathroom I would kill another three or four . The next morning it was better but they still were so me around for my morning coffee.
Now about the park. The park was pretty well wiped out during a couple of hurricanes so things are not the same as some of the earlier reviews. They have a nice pit toilet. They do have outside cold showers. My wife and I took a very nice walk on a board walk through the marsh. Lots of birds and on the loop on the end of the walk we were excited to see a alligator that was sun bathing across the boardwalk. They do have wifi at the office. We have t mobile for our iPads and AT&T for our phones. Both signals were very spotty. I checked the speed of both wifi and cellular. The wifi at the office is slow and our cellular was almost was a crawl. The good news the surroundings are so flat that when I went up on the bird overlook structure my T-Mobile must have been in line of sight with the tower and it jumped to a very reasonable speed.
Kayaks and canoes are available for rent and they have water routes for novice to more serious boaters. The launch area (the launch area and dump area is 1/2 mile away and across the road and not connected to RV section of park.) looks like it used to be quite large prior to the hurricanes. The also have one cabin to rent at the launch area that probably used to be related to the boat launching area. They say they have a spoonbill foot trail from the launching area, but all I could find was a small trail where someone had walked over the grass. The beach is very close to the RV sites and it sounds like some people do go swimming. It is a great place if you are a birder and another RVer looked like fishing was good.

Beautiful spot, nothing like a campfire looking out on the gulf under the star strewn sky.

Jumped on a site with a friend and his family who were in an Rv. Nice pull through and beautiful views. Ride out was a little strange, running through refineries and such if you're coming from the 10.

Bathrooms are basic, I heard mention of showers but didn't track em down. $3 to pitch a tent next to my friends. Life is good.

At the park for one week Jan. 2016. Small number RV sites well spaced out. I was in site 13 close to office so I had good WIFI even though not listed as a service. Some helicopter noise but in general quiet park. Close to pools so could watch birds. Staff friendly. Good kayaking location with three planned trails and easy access to water. Only complaint mosquitoes were bad even in Jan. No showers so need self contained unit. Would come back.

Location. Location. Location. For that you can forgive a few warts. We stayed in a campsite right on the beach. We walked and bicycled on the beach several times. We bicycled the 12 miles or so into Galveston to sightsee, too. Easy ride unless there's a big headwind. Possibly you can ride the beach nearly all the way -- we'll try it next time. Sites nice and level and paved. Water and power. Bathrooms clean and good. Showers abysmal -- they flood and there's no ventilation so you end up in a steam bath. But, ahhhh, the Gulf.
