Very interesting place. The state park has 10 areas situated along the lake & the lake is huge. The campground is of course along the lake. We were in site 5 which backed up to the lake. We had a satisfactory view. My husband says sites 2 & 3 were the best. I would say sites 18, 19 & 20 are nice because in addition to backing up to the lake you also are in a very good position to watch the sunset. ONe thing to take into consideration is the very short driveway to access these sites. Then when you get to the sites they are not deep. We ate at Boyette’s and a bbq place just outside the campground; forget it’s name. Catfish good at Boyette’s; chicken livers ok at bbq place, per my husband. I had the bbq & it was less than satisfactory. But then we are from a bbq capital of NC. :) Bathhouse nice.

We had a lake side site. It was nice but difficult to back in with trees on either side. One restroom was nice. The other needed updated. Didn’t use the shower. The area nature centers were closed due to COVID. Went to union city to discovery park of America. That was nice

The spots by the lake are very scenic. We have a 36’ 5th wheel and had reserved 2 spots that said 40 foot rigs were allowed. The first spot my in-laws couldn’t have even gotten their 30 foot in. This spot it was very hard to make work due to the trees, tables, dumpster, etc. THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR LARGE RIGS.
The facilities were great. Very clean, heated bathroom. Very scenic. Would come back if I can find a easier spot, however most are flooded.

Not well maintained, floods almost every site after rain. Lots of bugs.

Just our personal note - sites aren't that cool

We stopped for just one night passing thru, would have stayed longer if time permitted. Lake views from most sites, paved, level sites, plenty of shade. A recent storm took some trees, damaged the maintenance bldg, some cleanup ongoing. Friendly staff, took our fee over the phone. Verizon service good.

Nice and quiet (even on Memorial Day). Beautiful lake, shaded sites and ok showers and laundry. There is a visitors center a mile or so down the road where you can see live eagles, owls and more or take a guided boat tour. And the boardwalk that threads its way through the cypress trees is very nice. Several local restaurants are close by. Bring your fishing pole.

This is a fishing lake and just wasn't ranked with my favorites. My husband can come again (by himself) and fish.
