Mike and Cheryl here. We have a 44 foot Class A RV. Here is my review of Roan Mountain State Park Campground. Road to: Overall good, but a little narrow, twisty and hilly at times. Road inside: Mostly paved but they do have a few potholes. Trees: Could use some trimming. The trees over our site were touching the roof of our motorhome. Check in: Small size office right at entrance. Parking: Medium size parking area. Seasonal campers: No. Signage: good Site 48: Gravel pad, but level. Had table and fire pit. View: View of river from a distance. The river is beautiful even with the earlier flood. Site spacing: Good spacing. Bathhouse: Nice. Laundry room: Small. Swimming pool: None. Club house: No. Fitness area: No. Grounds: Good. TV: None. Wifi: Good. So here is the bad: 1) The river flooded during the hurricane. The grounds along the river was destroyed, but they are working on it. 2) The bridge to the upper campground was destroyed. 3) Trees need to be trimmed. Travel Far, Dream Big, Live Well...

Beautiful setting in the woods. Stayed in lower loop. The sites are very tight together. If you are in the inner loop, There is a constant stream of people cutting thru campsites, right between our picnic table and camper even. Same for all the sites around us. No Campground etiquette at all. Lots of dogs and a lot of people don't clean up, they just look the other way when their dog poops. Not as quiet and secluded as we prefer in a Campground.

Very poor experience - some local ATV rider came screaming through the campground after dark - twice 15 min apart. Very loud, very fast. Not a safe state park even though upon check in there were two armed rangers at the office at mid day! Reserved site for two nights- left after 1. I was assured this is the first time this has ever happened - for my wife and I once was enough.

One of our new favorites. We stayed in upper loops mid week and found it quiet and peaceful. Amenities were good including wifi but no cell service ATT. Hiking in the park and up on the Roan massif was spectacular.

10/23-10/26/20 Roan Mountain is a beautiful park. Has pool, tennis, rec room w pool table, and nice campground. Sites by entrance are flat, level and able to handle larger rigs. Sites going up the mountain are tricky to get into and definitely are narrow very twisty hilly roads. We did fine w our small Rpod but took some maneuvering for bigger RV’s. We visited Miller Homestead, visitor/intrepretive/mill center and drove to top Roan mountain into NC and saw Appalachian Trail. Absolutely gorgeous fall colors in mountains. Be sure and go into town of Roan Mountain for yummy pizza at the very rustic Smokey Mountain Bakers. Site C43, $26-28

Best state park camping ever. Well-maintained, beautiful and quiet. Lower level sites on the Doe River - gorgeous! Beware upper loops! Many sites require 4 wheel drive to get backed in b/c of the incline. Native landscapes are outstanding. Good WiFi but no cell service.

Happen chance to pick the number one rated TN state park for the last three years. We highly recommend and will be returning.
