Camped here three nights Thur-Sat Sep 29, 30 and Oct 1, 2022 w/o reservations. Lots of availability and good variety of campsites in the one loop that was open; primitive only with pit toilet that was ok; water was turned off and no dump station. Garbage cans were not being emptied and that was very messy. Lots of boating and fishing available, and some hiking.

Nice lake. Not too busy. Sites can be uneven but most are spaced well. Look for lakeside - a bit hilly to get to water but good to launch kayaks, dogs swimming. 2.00 per dog per nite surcharge. First we’ve seen in National Forest. Bathrooms are dirty. One last cleaning date showed 7/17????Lots of litter around- cigarettes, dog waste, paper. Two weeks after Busy Sturgis weeks but don’t think we will come back, even with the lake. Managed by private company - haven’t seen cleaning or litter licking or cleaning pits. Too bad. Could be a jewel if given some attention. Hosts take money and that’s it.

Quiet, clean and on beautiful lake. Far enough away from all the tourist attractions in the area but close enough to get where you need to.

A superb campground in a pine forest right next to Sheridan Lake. Nearly level sites with a fair degree of distance between neighbors. No hook ups. Nice vault toilets. Water available. No showers. Campground host. Gate attendant. Convenient to Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, Rapid City, Custer, Needles Highway and more. No Verizon signal. Reservable on recreation.gov. We paid $13/night with senior pass plus $9 reservation fee.
