I stayed 06-03-25. Gorgeous little gem of a place. It’s a basic, small, forest service campground nestled at the base of the surrounding hills right among a few trees on a babbling little brook. It was so quiet and charming I would have loved to spend more time here. I would def stay here again the next time I’m in the area. The camp host was extremely pleasant and great to talk to. It is easy to get to. Good road in, although it is quite narrow in places, only enough room on the little bridges and some parts of the road for one vehicle at a time, but it was not heavily traveled during my brief time here. There is very little coverage. I was able to make calls and send texts as long as they did not include photos or links, even using my cell booster. I have Verizon. I did not use the restrooms here so cannot comment on them. I am not sure why people seem to be overlooking this great spot to use as a home base while exploring historic Lead and Deadwood as well as checking out Bridal Veil Falls on the Spearfish Scenic Canyon Drive.

Camped here one night Wed Sep 28, 2022. Very pretty little spot with only eight small sites plus some for tents. Got here early and grabbed a spot with the creek 10 yards away; place filled up as the day went on. Fast flowing cold creek with lots of trout. Clean pit toilet. Some hiking trails available. The drive through Spearfish Canyon was beautiful; saw some Bighorn Sheep at Bridal Veil Falls.

You can’t beat the backdrop to the forestry service campground. No hookups, pit toilets, water pump, trash and camp host. It is a beautiful place.
