Agree with others. Great location. Evening programs and sunsets are possibly worth a stay. Water was terrible. Showers were pay and barely trickled water. When someone flushed potty all others gurgled and showers/faucets paused. Most electric sites had you opening door into the road. Therefore no awning and brutal heat.

August 13-14 2022. The only reason I am giving this three stars is that it is within the National park. But if you are in anything other than a tent, I would highly recommend going to one of the campgrounds just outside of the south entrance to the park. All sites were pull-out with little real m for street traffic. We chose a site on the driver’s side so that we could open our slides. But opening the house door, on the passenger’s side, required great caution so that we would not open it into a passing car. Fr the tenters, finding a working water spigot was a challenge.

The other reviews are valid as of August 2022. Still great location, still pull out spots that are a little funky but they work. Just there one night. Great sunset but it was screaming hot! Really dark at night. Hike early to beat the heat. Door trail is good and a reasonable length. Electric only.

There are great views of the surrounding badlands and it’s within a mile or two of multiple great hikes. We liked the 6.6 mile castle and medicine root loop trail the best to get a great feel for the park. The sites are pull offs but there’s very little traffic on the campground loops. Stay on the outside of the Agate loop for the best views. The showers are coin operated so bring some quarters. We came in beginning of June and the grass was green and the temp was 65-70 during the day. Overall, this National park is so unique, I definitely hope to stay here again someday. had 4 bars of Verizon LTE. And don’t miss the Ranger talks starting at 9pm at the amphitheater (only a short walk away). They have two telescopes for stargazing and seeing the craters on the moon.

Locationwise this is a 5 star campground in the middle of the breathtaking Badlands. Had no problems with the site, even with a 36 ft class a. Facilities are ok but need some TLC.

This is still one of the oddest campgrounds most will likely ever encounter. It’s all about the location.
On this stay tent sites were plentiful but the limited electric sites were mostly reserved. Very organized camp keeping track of availability. Following Covid guidelines for checkin. Electric sites are $40+ per site, $28.31 with senior pass. Decent AT&T.
Two miles, almost within sight are two other camping spots, in Interior, right outside park entrance. Flat level sites with power pedestal on the correct side. And a decent little store in town. And one wandering peacock.

I did not care for the pull through arrangement where you park on the road with shaded picnic table in the site. It makes for congested roads and definitely a more crowded feeling to the campground. However, how much time is really spent at the campsite anyway?
The camphost was friendly, place is run efficiently, location is excellent, close to the east end of the park where the hiking trails are located. Hot showers nice at 50 cents for 4 minutes.

We loved the campground and were super excited to be staying in the National Park. Yes-the sites are pull offs and no you can’t have a huge rig with massive slide outs...our little 20ft Airstream fit in our site perfectly. Also-who comes to a national park like the Badlands to hang out at the campground? We spent the day in the park and Cedar Pass made the perfect home base.

As others have noted this campground is laid out for the most part with a series of pull offs. If you have slide outs this can be a problem as the sites are pretty narrow and so is the road. If all your slides are on the drivers side you’re better off on the inside facing the bathrooms then on the outside facing the cliff and prairie views. These are the non-electric sites. If you have a deep slide and want an electric hookup you could be in trouble.
In addition there are these low posts designed to keep people from driving on the grass that are set at a perfect height to trap unwary RVers stabilizer jacks and steps. Yeah we got stuck. The maintenance guys told us we were the third that week.
We arrived on a Monday without reservations. There were plenty of sites available. The campground host said if we wanted to stay for more than one night to go up to the lodge. We did and were able to add three more nights. Next morning however we saw a placard indicating that someone else had been given our site. Fortunately The folks at the lodge were able to fix the issue.
On the plus side. The park is great and well worth putting up with the idiosyncrasies of the campground and the concession who runs it. They do give a 50% discount for senior and Access passes and the staff for the most part were very helpful. The sites have nice little sunshades over the picnic tables which is a nice touch. Yeah you have to pay for showers but it’s only 25 cents.
Just check and double check everything they give you. Their system (not Recreation.gov) is complicated and error prone.

The view simply isn’t worth it. As others have said, this campground is poorly laid out. Hard to navigate as campers are lined up on both sides of the road. Facilities were disgustingly filthy and not maintained. You have to pay for showers and dump station in addition to the $40+ per night just for the site. Would not stay here again.
