If you’re lucky enough to get a lakeside site, this place is the best game in town. We were just staying one night, with no reservations and scored the best site in the place - #28, with concrete pad perfect for our 24’ RV. Close to Mr Rushmore without all the tacky tourist stuff, it’s a winner. Hosts were nice, although they were leaving the next day. $13w/senior pass.

It was a 5 star area with a 1 Star host! She (the host) was very rude. When asked if she gave military discounts she basically replied in her rude tone that we have a base near here. If we gave a military discount they’d all come! Hmmmmm

We stayed the night here in our Casita trailer. We were passing through the area and chose this spot based on the proximity to Mount Rushmore. We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the area. The campground has nice large sites with some having lake views. Very private feeling. This is a true dry camping campground. Although there is a pit toilet on site. You can not beat the location being 2 miles from Mount Rushmore’s gate. Very positive experience for us.

Stayed 2 nights while we explored Rushmore, Crazy Horse and nearby national & state, parks 5/29-31/18. Site 17 has a good view of the lake from our TC. Quiet park, not many weekday campers.

We found this to be a very nice campground, with well appointed sites. Our spot had a concrete pad, (with plenty of room for our RV) nice tables and fire pits near clean bathrooms. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly, stopping by to offer up some firewood and checking to see if everything was alright! The setting was beautiful in the fall with colors around the lake. VERY convenient to Mt. Rushmore which is literally 5 minutes away. But, you would never know it from inside the campground as it is very quiet and well set off the roadway.

At $26 a night for a primitive tent (no electric) site, you'll leave feeling like you've had one pulled over on you. There are no amenities outside the standard pit latrine, and water source. There are some trash cans and a can recycling bin as well. The tent sites are not accessible by vehicle and you'll have to carry your gear to your spot. Not an easy task were you disabled. All in all a very blah campground.

We were able to get a tent site right on the lake. There was steps to get down so the kids could play in the water. Beautiful scenery. $24/night. Had a toilet and potable water. Close to mt rushmore. Great campsite. Highly recommend.

The U.S.Forest Service has contracted out the management of the campground to F.R.M.. A camp site costs $24/night and pets are an additional $2/pet/night. The contractor host has an overly developed and personalized campsite. The contractor host referred to the campground as "their" campground; not the U.S. Forest Service. I will avoid this campground - and any other that is contracted - in the future.
