Here鈥檚 an update to our previous reviews, since nobody seems to post reviews on this very busy campground. The Davis Creek campground was heavily damaged in September 2024 by the Davis Creek fire, and much of the infrastructure was destroyed. Nevada鈥檚 rec department is listing it a closed for the 2025 season for repairs, so plan on checking before heading there.

Well, exactly a year and 7K miles later, we found ourselves back at Davis Creek (see review below). Last time we were just passing through, this time we stayed three nights to better explore the Carson Valley area. We rolled in on a Thursday evening, and what a difference in weather- las time it was 17 degrees and snowing, this time it was 82 and beautiful. We would reiterate, though- this is NOT a great campground to roll into after dark, as it is tight with lots of trees, and many of the sites are awkward to get into. Instead of a pull- through like last time, we opted for a back-in site (site 11) and we were surprised to find the site we expected to handle a 22芒鈧劉 unit with a tow vehicle barely accommodated a 21芒鈧劉 unit, and we had to cram our Tacoma in sideways, which technically wasn芒鈧劉t cool, but the Ranger looked the other way as we were pretty much on pavement with all four wheels. Some of our neighbors weren芒鈧劉t able to do the same, and had to pay for additional parking a fair distance away. The site was very unlevel, which seems to be the norm at this campground. We had to go up 5芒鈧 side-to-side and almost 10芒鈧 front-to-back. *Note*- if you stay at Davis Creek, pretty much any site, you better bring your 芒鈧揂芒鈧 game with regards to leveling. Bring the Anderson芒鈧劉s, bring the Camco blocks, and bring plenty. Our neighbor in Site 12 had what looked like a game of Jenga going trying to level his pop-up, and we were truly concerned it was going to roll down the hill and hit our rig. We stayed as far away from 395 as was possible and noise was still an issue. Nice picnic table and fire ring, good dry firewood was $6 for a good size bundle- enough wood for a three-hour fire. No hookups, strictly dry camping. I incorrectly noted in the last review that the North loop has hookups- again, the North loop was closed for the season (which was a bit wacky considering the heat, and the South loop was completely full) but it didn芒鈧劉t look like it had hookups as far as I could tell. Only one bar on AT&T, and the trees were too dense for our Starlink. Dump station is a bit difficult to find, right in the middle of the campground, typical pit dump for $5, there芒鈧劉s a hose to rinse down the area but no way to hook up a black tank flush. Multiple potable water spigots (painted red) spread around the campground. In summary, if you have a towable stay in the lower part in a pull-through, especially over 20芒鈧劉. Class B and Class C under 22芒鈧劉 should do ok in the upper part where we were. Good tent sites, but many are very unlevel, tent sites sloped in many cases. Please *Note*- the Davis Creek website has a link showing the individual campsites, but the images a bit misleading, the sites look both larger and flatter than reality- I compared images to reality and there was a serious disconnect. Rangers were very friendly, just like last time. In summary- if you need an overnight and have a small rig, this can work, but be ready for a leveling challenge. We芒鈧劉ll leave it at 3 Stars for it芒鈧劉s convenient location to Carson City, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

We used Davis Creek as an overnight stop while heading South on 395. Easy access off the highway. Arrived a bit late, whole campground was pitch black so it was a bit difficult to find our reserved spot. We arrived on a Monday evening in early October, campground was essentially empty. Unfortunately, the pull-through sites seem to be mostly uphill, and on the narrow side if you have a slide and rigid steps. 20芒鈧劉 travel trailer was 10芒鈧 out of level, threw all the tricks at it and still wound up 2芒鈧 low in the back. Didn芒鈧劉t use the facilities, simply dry camped for the night. Upper loop of campground has hookups, but was closed for the Winter season. Lower loop is strictly dry camp. Noticeable noise from 395. Met onsite Ranger in the morning, very pleasant fellow.
