We found Patterson Lake to be a great stop. We stayed 3 nights. Park is very clean and well maintained and staff were very friendly. Train noise was not an issue at all. Great stop for visiting Teddy Roosevelt National Parks, both North and South.

A lovely park @ a great price BUT no sleep due to extremely busy full speed train tracks less than a 100 yds away. The trains blast their loud horn, at least twice for each crossing and one is the entrance to the park. The three trains in the early evening, didn’t bother me much, (even though they were extremely loud) because I was already awake but the one at 12:50 AM startled me terribly. Felt like it ran right over me! I couldn’t get back to sleep…Just started to dose when the 5:30 AM train scared me again.

As the summary says, trains. 3-4 every night and they blow their horns at a crossing into the park. But IF you are a person who can easily fall back to sleep, this is a well maintained, lightly used park at a good price (especially seniors with a Federal Senior Pass - half price). We are in a hard-sided trailer so that dampened the horn volume a bit. We based here for 3 days while we explored Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The first night was tough, but the subconscious begins to filter noise quickly. My wife thought she only heard one train the second night (there were 4).

I would not recommend this campground. My wife and I take a motorcycle trip every summer across country. This would have to be one of our worse experiences. While the campground is beautiful, nothing makes up for the train whistles every 30 minutes all night long. This was not posted any where at the checkin station. In addition, the restrooms were not maintained.
