It’s tough to beat Yellowstone, and this campground puts you right up close with the wildlife as I routinely saw elk passing through the sites. First come first served, and open all year. No issue getting a spot when I arrived in the early afternoon in mid October. Note that Mammoth Hotel is no longer offering pay-to-shower in their cabins, so it’s use your own or stink for a few days :)

Came for three days, stayed for nine! Great location if you are an early riser going to the further reaches of the park. Elk passing through every day and bedding down at the far north end of the campground. Nearest dump station is just beyond Gardiner, about 7 miles at the Sinclair station. They also sell propane. Hosts are great.

As campgrounds go, this is basic and if it wasn’t in Yellowstone would be nothing special. But, we had a great time and would definitely come back.

first come, first serve. $20. Nothing special, on the Road. We did have Buffalo come right through the campground which was nice to see

Great Campground in my favorite part of Yellowstone NP. Campground sites can not be reserved - but when we were there in mid-August campground did not fill up until late afternoon. Very helpful staff when it came to choosing from a list of available sites. They can tell you how level a site is on a scale of 1 to 10 and if there is any morning or afternoon shade. Chances are you will love the site the host recommends for your equipment - but if you find an open site you like better you can change sites.

Stayed here two weeks in late May and early June, and loved it. Try to get campsite on outer edge of campground, which have better views. Toilets were quite clean, and cleaned daily. Good location for Lamar Valley wildlife trips. Showers in Mammoth Hotel at Mammoth Village, accessed by trail or car.
