Camped two nights Tue-Wed Oct 1-2 with a reservation a few days before; campground was fairly full. Most sites are small and tight together ... design layout is more suitable for tents. Well used and worn campground, but bathroom/showers were decent. Hiking and boating activities available, and the historic fort has been nicely renovated.

Stayed in West campground for three nights. Crowded on the weekend then thinned out a bit. Sites are tight but there are plants between them mostly. East campground appears more open. The fort makes the stay worthwhile. Really cool. Don’t miss it. Town is small with a few gift shops, motels and restaurants. No cell service in town. Verizon works on a nearby mountain and beside the flagpole at the fort.
Bathhouse and shower was OK.

A wonderful park. Clean bathrooms and showers. The old Historical Fort is well worth the visit. The store has a good selection of RV supplies.

We stayed in the East campground, which is the smaller of the two. Not all sites are level( watch for low hanging trees. Note that electrical boxes can be a way from your site. Restrooms/showers were clean and there was a laundry room. Pro is that this campground is close to the laundry, Fort Wilkins, and the park store (which has great ice cream!). There is WI-FI signal in parts of the East campground , strongest signal next to laundry and park store. Con is that sites are more open than wooded, and it was very busy while there. We rode our bikes through the West campground which is more wooded, has more sites, yet seemed quieter. Some sites were a good walk from the bathhouse if you need to use facilities or shower. West side is closer to the boat launch for Fanny Hooe Lake. West side had 6 or 8 long, paved pull-through sites for big rigs but I imagine they go quickly. More large sites on West side, but there are more sites overall also. Both sides had great wooded walking trails that also crossed main road so you could also walk along Lake Superior. Gravel bike/walking paths let you ride almost whole way to Copper Harbor without getting in main road until the end, but parts are hilly with loose gravel. If you’re going that far north, it’s a beautiful area.

We spent Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The campsites were sold out and all sites had multiple people - not a surprise for holiday weekend - but bathroom facilities could not handle the number of campers. Also know that this is a mountain bike mecca with both adults and children on bikes constantly through out campground so if you are looking for a quiet campground, this may not be your thing. Sites were average for Michigan state parks - mostly grassy, occasionally muddy, and not always level. Limited number of concrete pad sites book up early. We had road bikes and there are limited paved roads to ride.

Very nice. What you would expect from a State Park. Decent privacy between sites. Everything worked. Fort is cool. Be prepared for bugs in the mid summer if the wind dies down.

Beautiful Location in the wilderness along the lake... dense forests ... level, safe, large sites with 30amp... an older campground with gravel sites but well maintained. Roads good for larger rigs. Cell service and WiFi very poor.... #HisRoadTrip www dot HisRoadTrip dot com

We were looking for a campground that would allow us to explore the northern end of the Keweenaw Peninsula. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed on a weeknight in August.
There are 2 sections to this campground - east and west with Fort Wilkins in between. We stayed at the west campground. The staff was friendly and helpful. The campground was clean and well maintained. Sites were mostly shaded. Sizes of the sites varied. There was limited wifi, best accessed near the rest rooms - picnic tables gave it away. There is no Verizon/ATT coverage.
All sites in the west CG were a short walk from Lake Fanny Hooe. There were nice walking trails to Copper Harbor, Fort Wilkins, lighthouse viewing and the boat ramp. There were trails to the very point of the Keweenaw Peninsula that were best suited for off road and not road bicycles.

The West Campground (4 stars) is the nicer of the two campgrounds with well defined private sites . On a busy weekend the East Campground (3 stars) can feel like crowded tent city.
