We were camping at lake Burton and decided to drive by black rock mountain to check things out since there are some negative comments in reviews. I agree with ALL the negative comments and would never attempt to bring my 35鈥� fifth wheel. The road from Hwy 441 to the campground gets more dangerous the closer you get to the campground. Very narrow, winding and sharp blind curves with no shoulder. Driving through the campground is a VERY narrow road as well with tight maneuvering required to back into each site. I didn鈥檛 check out the bathrooms or laundry but the visitor center being a mile further up the mountain is not convient. If you visit I think the best time of year would be when the rhododendrons are blooming since they are everywhere. The short waterfall hike is really only interesting after some heavy rains. The only views are from 3 observation platforms.

Dangerous 芒鈧�鈥� roads are so narrow there are accidents; I was nearly clipped by a trailer on the windy road up the mountain. Then, to be camping on a hillside with dogs barking constantly芒鈧�鈥漚llowed without limitations other than one 芒鈧�艙unattended芒鈧�聺 dog that barked for hours & finally asked by Jessica, Park Mgr to be removed. I left early due to Management issues!

Beautiful Park and it is open all year round now.

Great campground. The drive isn芒鈧�鈩�t bad if you take it slow. The scenery is great as are the facilities.

Even in the rainy days during our stay in June, it was such a pleasure, surrounded by mountain mist & rhododendron bushes of every color. Hiking trails are steep, well-maintained, dipping down towards the valley and upward to the continental divide. Bathhouse and laundry sufficient. Mostly level sites off steep graded roads. Dump was in a curious location, from our site, we had to drive further into the campground, circle back around. Verizon connectivity was 5 Mbps down & 2 Mbps up, therefore slowly, if at all. Park WiFi on the porch was better.

Our first thought about the park is how friendly and helpful the host Cindy and Jerry, the trading post staff and the ranger were. The park is the highest state park an Georgia and is situated on the top of the mountain. We have a small 24' foot fifth wheel that is only 7' wide. I would not want to bring a larger rig up the road since it is narrow and curvy and the if you take a corner too close your trailer wheels could drop off the pavement in to a five inch rut. We did get reservations on line for a specific campsite but when we got here it was pick your own site. This could create a problem if someone thought they were reserving a larger site and then found the only opening was a smaller site.

The sites vary from being very close to widely spaced. The sites that are close together are at different levels so you feel like you still have a view. Each site has cable hookup. We also had a small clearing in the trees for our satellite dish, but you are surrounded by trees so don't plan to use your dish. The park does have laundry facilities.

The area trees do block yours clear view of the surrounding mountains,but the park does provide some short observation platforms so you can get some great pictures of the surrounding mountains and the sun setting. The trading post store is located with the campground but the visitor center is a short drive from the camping area. We do recommend the park , but would recommend that they put some gravel in the ruts so you have some shoulder for the road to the park.
