We have been staying at Southern Retreat on and off for years. Each time we come back something is updated and improved! It's a clean, well looked after spot to stay for a few days, lots to see and do in the area.

we stay at this park on our way too and from Florida, it's an easy stop off I-95 (exit 29), sites are level and drain well, roads are paved. Sites are long but a bit narrow, I was told they are adding new, wider spots. People in the park are very friendly. Restaurant food was good.

I stayed in a primitive tent site here in May 2020 and found it perfectly fine for an overnight stop. Tent area is a grassy area toward the back of the property, bordered by trees on one side and a canal (fence separated) on another. Tent area is couple feet higher than the rest of the property, so seems like it would be ok in case or rain (it was dry when I was there). Relatively quiet night. Bathrooms (50 yards away?) were clean. I didn't use any other amenities so can't comment. Friendly customer service over the phone with reservation, and in the office the next morning. Nothing fancy but I saw no negatives. Would stay again.

New owners in last six months. New name Southern Retreat RV. New website. This was our first stay. Compared to others past reviews, improvements are being made. But, still rather rough. All sites are grass, slightly sloppy when wet. Bathrooms were clean, seemed to have some upgrades from past reviews, not as basic as a state park but still basic. Access was easy from
I-95. A few stores, restaurants, fuel options nearby. Connie at the front desk was very nice and check-in was easy. We travel in a 42’ motorhome, flat towing a Jeep.

New ownership! Nice looking park under construction. Nice staff. Never looked at bathrooms. Had a pull through site full hulk up for one night will stay again only 38 bucks with good sam discount.

2nd time we stayed overnight heading north. They were working on the roads. Improvements going in the right direction. The bathrooms and laundry were really dirty. They were usable but barely. There is no excuse for the amount of dirt present. A few pieces of toilet paper or garbage is no problem but the showers were dirty. Hope it’s better next trip. We like the location and convenience of this place but won’t stay again unless it’s clean.

Was a nice place very convenient the freeway. The area of the campground we stayed in was nice and well kept. The permanent site area had the normal mix of nice well kept units and slum type areas. We had no problem with smell and only heard the freeway and train when we tried to hear them. It's a reasonable price for a three star campground.

Place is a dump and smells like a sewer in certain spots but if you just need a place to plug in and rest for the night it'll do. The good thing is the convenience - it's right off the freeway. I guess that's how they get away with charging $40/night, which is outrageous for this place. I'm only here because they honor Passport America so I got the 50% discount.

The park is an older park which could use some updates, but is a fine campground for a few nights. Location is great, wi-fi works, laundry facilities, and full hookups. IMO, they could use some fresh gravel for the gravel/mud pad and (right now without updates) I think is a little overpriced. But I would come back if in this area again.

I respectfully disagree with the prior reviews, I found no problems staying here. Albeit it was for a one night weekday stay and I think the area is a bit impoverished, but as a northern city dweller, I appreciated the experience.
Office staff was very courteous, pulling in was easy and the area seemed safe and alright to me. There are a small number of full timers. I plan to soon stay again on my return to Ohio!
