Finally able to secure a reservation as a FL resident using the 11 month window. Booked early March 2025 and enjoyed our 5 day visit. Limited property within the campground means tight spaces. But they kept vegetation between sites as best they can. Lots to do, so we didn’t spend a lot of time at the site. Easy access, fairly level site, all supplies utilities worked well, and camp hosts kept the area clean. Good Verizon signal as well.

This is all about location. The sites themselves are tight and no view. But the park is pretty. We were there when the weather wasn’t good, so we missed out on boat tours and snorkeling, but still enjoyed the park and the views.

Great location and a state park with full hookups. The sites are super tight with barely enough room for slides. Lots of inconsiderate campers walking through sites and having fires 1 foot from your window. Would definitely not visit again which pains me to say for a Florida State Park. Least favorite state park I've ever stayed at.

Great location in the Keys. Close to grocery and restaurants. Clean and secure. Friendly staff. Small sites and campground is tucked away. No views from campground. No see-ums made sitting outside difficult. Visited in mid February for 1 night.

Very popular park and campground off busy Highway 1. Sites are very close together. Many water-related amenities at the park. Everything is kept very tidy and clean.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef Campground is difficult to reserved due to the popularity of the park coral reef. Occasionally, campsite may be come available for 1 or 2 days if check hourly/daily, if patience is not your forte then book your site months in advance. Got site#34 for 2 nights at $38/day plus tax. Very reasonable considered it location with cool kayak/canoe launching area and many clear water trails to explore. All graveled and leveled campsites were back-ins. The main isle was large enough to maneuvering our trailer backwards. Sites will be narrow for big rigs with slide outs. Site was equipped with full hookup, grill stand (untrimmed shrubs surrounding make grilling difficult). Since campsites are very close to each other, we elect to sani dump at the exit instead at the site. Short walk to 2 bathrooms strategic placed at each end of the campground. Elevated building houses a well maintained bathroom with modern shower and clean toilets. Thanks to friendly camp hosts busy running around tidy up the place. Coin-op laundry with small washer and dryer are in the same building. WiFi is strong at the marina or victor center, but sucks at campground. Strong enough LTE to make mobile users happy. Nice and shaded trail/dog walk area near camp host site. We would camp here again if coming back this way.

Great park, two different walk to beaches, snorkeling over a sunken ship. Kids loved it and it wasn't too far from shore. Took the glass bottom boat tour of the reef right from campground. Spaces were shaded, mosquitos were controllable with strong spray. Bathrooms clean, and everything was walking distance.

Stayed at John Pennekamp SP for two nights on the 19th and 20th of December 2016, while on our way to Key West. We travel in a 25' RV and have a toad. The RV park is small, with only 40 or so sites. Reserve well in advance!! Each site has full hookups and the place was clean and seemed to be well maintained. The sites are small but adequate. 40' motor coaches and fifth wheels fit fine. The bathrooms/showers were older but very clean. The site hosts were responsible for making sure they stayed that way. The park offers kayak and canoe rentals as well as gear for snorkeling and dive gear. Glass bottom boat and reef tours are available as well. Park staff were friendly and helpful. The only down side to our stay was the no-seeem's. We were fighting off the biters with deet and skin so soft. Would deffently stay again.

Sept 2014 1 night stay. Last minute trip w boys and sweetheart. Staff @ gate were lovely. Weather was gloomy. Site was basic, seemingly next to swamp. Water, sewer and electic. Showers clean and close by. Swam at beach (bring aqua shoes). Taxi to dinner was $13 and fun. Rain helped decide dining out option. So I forgot AC duct work and we used fans which were ok...my bad. In a VW campmobile, every cubic foot matters so i put dry food in plastic tote beside cooler outside. Raccoons loved it! They ate bread, cereal, turkey, cheese, pretzels, drank Capri Sun juice boxes...everything. HILARIOUS! Again, my bad. Cleaned Site in morning and left. Dunkin Donuts to the rescue. Will return again. Fun place. Great memories.
