This was a very nice surprise. We were a little uncertain after the 12 mile drive from Crested Butte on dirt roads, but so happy with the campground! Beautiful spots (we were off season so easy to get a space without reservation). Facilities we clean, spaces large and private some with amazing views. Definitely worth the drive.

This is our favorite campsite. We've camped all over Colorado and the West and the beauty, seclusion, and activities here are second to none. It's one of the few places we've been to on more than one occasion. One morning we woke with a bear just 100 feet away rummaging through garbage. There's a hike just north of the lake which climbs to a plateau with amazing views of the Maroon Belles, a lush valley leading into Crested Butte, and snow top mountains as far as the eye can see. I normally wouldn't write a review hoping to keep this place a secret, but since there were no reviews I couldn't let that stand. The cover on the great book Colorado Campgrounds: The 100 Best and all the Rest is a picture from this campground. It's spectacular. The town of Crested Butte is only 9 miles away.
