I’ve waited years to get in a Yosemite campground and ironically the floods allowed me to do so. Stayed two nights. Good access to the Village and a couple good hikes. No water or RV dump. Disturbing me most was the number of no show campers. Empty sites. Shameful. NPS should also join the 2000’s with WiFi in their campgrounds when they require so many reservations inside and outside the park through recreation.gov. All in all, these campgrounds are due for a refresh, given Yosemite’s stature!

Truth be told, you don't go to Yosemite for the camping. It's all about the park which is beautiful and worth putting up with some old camping accommodations. Getting to the lower pines campground was quite a struggle for my 1/2 ton truck pulling a 7.000 pound 23 foot travel trailer. Most people in the park are tenting or in rented motor homes. the spaces are tight but level and clean. The facilities are old and not all that well kept. There is no water at this campground but you can fill up and dump at the upper pines. We rode bikes through the adjoining campgrounds (upper and northern pines) and did not see a significant difference between the three campgrounds. This park has 5 million visitors a year so there is a lot of traffic and pedestrians. Just plan on taking your time navigating through the park.

This was our first camping experience in Yosemite for our family. We felt that Upper Pines spot 216 was terrific. It was far enough away from the main entrance so it was quiet at night. The spots were varied and the tress around the camps were amazing. Our 25' RV fit nicely. They had a picnic table and fire pit. We even cooked over it one night. The bathrooms were a bit yucky but since we had our RV we didn't have to worry that much. We went in early August and found out you have to reserve these sites 3 months in advance. We felt we were very lucky.
