Very busy at lunch time with not a lot of parking for trucks/big rigs. Was able to park relatively safely for lunch stop.

As promised by the other reviews
I’d recommend taking a good look at the satellite view before pulling in. Need to use the car lane to access all of the shelter areas (of which there are many)
Peaceful enough for a dry camp overnight. (No diesels or reefer units running right next to you)
24 hour maximum stay per posted signs.
I’d stop here again for sure. Thank You, NMDOT!

Stayed here in February of 2020. Nice large area with several picnic tables and covers. No hookup all dry camping. Between the interstate and railroad. But far enough away that noise was not an issue. Great place to stop for the night. Would stay again.

This rest stop is awesome for dry camping! I think it used to be a regular campground as there are numbered pull through spots with lovey covered picnic areas. Wish I could post a pic as it’s just beautiful! Sites are level and far enough off the road that the freeway noise (though audible) was not a problem for us.

Wish all rest areas were like this. Great overnight sleep. To the right and left of rest area building are gravel roads leading to pull through camping/picnic spots, that are level. They have covered picnic tables and trash cans. Get in before it gets dark because it gets real dark. There is some road noise and train noise, didn’t bother us one bit. I use a CPAP and have no choice but to run my generator, so not an issue, like some white noise. Will use again if ever back through here. BTW, same thing on eastbound side.

Stayed over night after pulling into rest area there is a gravel area to right. Easy, flat and more quite than next to the trucks.
