Don’t expect great amenities but it’s an ideal place to go sightseeing! Alabama shows off her beauty with waterfalls and rock formations and deep lush forest. The gap roads are a bit of a challenge for any size vehicle so heed their advice about routing.

Mike and Cheryl here. We have a 44 foot Class A RV. Here is my review of the campground at DeSoto State Park. Getting to the campground was no problem, but it is important to follow their instructions. Several of the roads leading to the park is narrow, twisty, no shoulder with steep drop off. The small town of Fort Payne is pleasant with lots of amenities. The roads in the campground are paved and in good condition. The trees seem to all be trimmed. The campground office was open and everyone was friendly. The camp store is small. They have a large pull off for the RV while checking in. No escort to our site. The road signage to our site was good. Sites have fire pits and they sell firewood. Our site was 27, a backin site with a gravel slab, and picnic table. There is no view from our site, but the woods are nice. The campground has sunny and shaded sites. Our site was NOT level. The site was dry. There are no seasonal folks. The bathhouse was really nice. The laundry room was nice. There is no pool. There is no rec room. There is no workout fitness room. There is a restaurant at the lodge, but it only opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The grounds look well maintained. They have cable tv. No Wifi unless you went to the lodge. Overall the campground is quiet, relaxing and pretty. Here is the bad. Most sites are very unlevel. They do that for water drainage, but I feel they went too far. No Wifi. I feel that 27, 29 and 32 are the best. I would come back. Dream Big, Travel Far, Live Well...

Stayed three days. Rained a lot but we were still able to see several falls and were impressed with the boardwalk. Desktop Falls is a few minutes outside the park but worth the drive. If you like hiking, this is a great place! From easy to intensive.

Stayed here 2 nights on way to Florida. If you’re traveling South, consider going on to Fort Payne to access the campground. Other roads are pretty scary! Nice site 29. Restrooms were nice. Very cordial check-in person.

This is a fabulous campground. Large gravel sites, full hookups, well maintained. Sites are far enough apart and with trees to give privacy. Plenty of room for a dog. My dog was so at ease. It’s quiet and peaceful, lots of trails and waterfalls. Lots to see in the area. Everyone loves it so it’s hard to get into.

We have been to the wonderful state park numerous times. Absolutely beautiful. Good hiking. Nice places to rock climb if you are into that. Great facilities. Easy to get in and out. There are a number of good sites for buddy camping.

Absolutely wonderful state park. All sites have full hook up and the drive there is beautiful. Plenty of hiking in and around the park and many beautiful areas to explore that are not very far. Went waterfall hopping while I was there and it was a blast. No cell service in the park but it’s all good. Definitely will stay again

Reserve online. Easy check In. Store has necessities and laundry. A nice big park for the kids but it’s not located at the campsites. Several trails to hike and multiple small waterfalls within a mile or two hike. The campsites are not quite level but are very nice. Good gravel, table and fire ring. Full hookups. Tons of pull through for big rigs. The campground is located on a slope so the circle for biking is a climb up and then a hill back down. A really nice place to spend some time.
