Beautiful park. You do have to drive from lower campground to the upper campground to access the trails and views. Only takes a few minutes to drive up there and lots of places to park up there. Friendly staff. Stayed in #73 with 25ft trailer. My spot was small but several other spots could accommodate bigger rigs. Spot #60 would be the best as it overlooks the lake/swimming area. Phone reception is pretty much non existent, but that was kinda nice for me.

When I stayed there last summer I had booked for two nights but stayed for only one
For all the hiking trails they brag on not a one was out of the camp ground. The ashapht roads in the camp area were delapadated. I left the next morning thoroughly discussed and didn't ask for refund as I am sure they could use the money for repairs. This is first bad review I have given not that I haven't come across some dillys but sometimes you get what you pay for but this was beyond the pale.

We spent a week there in Oct. and left very disappointed. The roads and sites were poorly maintained and one bath house was out of service for over a year.
The real problem was a failed water test while we were there. We had to learn from another camper that a "boil water order" was in effect. At the camp store we were given 3 small bottles of water per day!
The campground was completely full so money should not be an issue for maintaining what should be a great park. Desoto State Park is so much better it's hard to believe their both in Alabama.
We were there in a travel trailer.

We stayed on lot 48 which was large to say the least! This state park offers plenty of large, spacious, fully equipped campsites which also boast clean, well maintained bathrooms. This campground is near the lower part of the mtn. Which gives you walking access to the lake and well done playground. Upper campground is near a sub par playground and more walking on trail areas. We will be back here for sure!!! It was breathtaking! I wish so many hiking trails were closer than driving distance. It is all very spread out. I love the emphasis put on the historical value of the park as well!
