In 4 years as a full-timer, this is one of the prettiest rest areas I've come across. Planned to overnight at Yreka Wal-mart; glad we decided to move on to here. Large parking areas (but not so level), clean restrooms, and a path along the Klamath River. What a beautiful spot.

This is our favorite California rest area. Pre Covid, the information booth was both a place to collect literature about places to visit in California, and where you could ask questions of knowledgeable and thoughtful staff. The lush, park like spaces around the huge parking lot are kept well manicured and attractive year round. There are numerous picnic tables under large shade trees, and covered gazebo with walkways meandering through the lawns. We have spent more than one stop sleeping in the parking area. While some find the separation from trafgic lanes (1/4 mile for NB, maybe 3/4 mile SB) a detour, the location, next to the Klamath River, a hundred feet or so below highay level goes a long way toward reducing the roar of passing trucks. Truly this rest area is a fitting tribute to its namesake, Ralph Collier.
